About The Position

Magellan Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a Painter at our plant in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This is a unionized, full-time term position, scheduled to conclude on October 1, 2027. Shift work is required. The Painter will be responsible for applying various types of paint finishes to aircraft subassemblies, parts and manufactured components. They will clean, prepare and mask surfaces in accordance with the specifications and plant processes prior to painting and will be required to do lettering, stenciling, and application of decals. The Painter will apply various types of paint or other protective coatings to plant support equipment and buildings.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in aerospace, automotive or industrial painting is required
  • Ability to meet visual acuity criteria is mandatory
  • Must be able to wear a respirator as required
  • Must be able to perform Junior High schools mathematics
  • Experience using painting spray guns and spray booths while applying various types of paints, primers and clear coats
  • Experience working with, handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals such as paints, abrasives and solvents
  • Possesses basic computer skills
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Ability to correctly interpret operation sheets, data cards or other applicable work instructions
  • Ability to read technical documents and follow detailed instructions with high precision
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work within specified safety requirements
  • Must be a positive team player

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of an automotive or industrial painting apprenticeship or equivalent certification is preferred
  • Experience applying waterborne primers is beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Precise masking and de-masking to protect sensitive areas from overspray
  • Monitor and control paint booth conditions (temperature, humidity, ventilation)
  • Conduct visual inspections and thickness testing to ensure coating quality
  • Keep detailed records of material used
  • Prepare, mask, and mix their own paints; and apply coatings to controlled dry film thickness requirements.
