Requirements

  • Working as a diesel mechanic, preferably with waste management, heavy equipment, or truck fleets preferred.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools, mechanical hand tools, and power tools to complete repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • A valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training in diesel mechanics is preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 70lbs and perform tasks in varying weather conditions, including working in tight spaces and on heavy equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to track and manage multiple repair projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to quickly diagnose and solve mechanical problems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum vehicle availability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic tests, maintenance, and repairs on diesel-powered waste management trucks and heavy equipment, including rear-load, front-load, and roll-off trucks.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance services, including engine checks, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire replacements.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and replace worn or damaged parts, such as brake systems, engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and air systems.
  • Ensure that all repairs and maintenance activities adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and company protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, hours worked, and services performed.
  • Work closely with other mechanics and supervisors to prioritize repairs and efficiently manage the fleet maintenance schedule.
