About The Position

Prepares surfaces and paints, varnishes, stains, enamels or lacquers to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time. The position involves determining the means and methods to be used in accomplishing assigned tasks, securing the appropriate tools, equipment, material and supplies. The incumbent will understand and interpret written specifications, corrective maintenance work requests, written and oral instructions and models/graphic illustrations such as layout diagrams, blueprints, work sketches and schematic drawings. Rigs staging or scaffolding to access work and observes safety practices and standards and wears required safety equipment. Performs a variety of routine service and repair tasks to maintain finished surfaces and completes corrective maintenance work orders properly with minimum supervision. Takes initiative to notice and correct problems with the physical plant, i.e. finishes, furnishings and fixtures, etc. without a work order or without being told by supervisor. Completes scheduled staff training and in-service for physical plant, building and Life Safety systems and equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Trade or Vocational School graduate preferred
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience required with 2 years’ experience as a painter or 3-4 years as a painters helper
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
  • Ability to interface and communicate with visitors, staff, and vendors
  • Ability to move throughout the Medical Center
  • Visual acuity for reviewing written reports
  • Ability to climb and balance on ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch and crawl when preparing surface for painting

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine rounds of the facility to perform minor repairs to painted and wall covering surfaces, ceilings, interior finishes, fabricated furnishings, etc.
  • Performs a variety of routine service and repair tasks to maintain finished surfaces
  • Completes corrective maintenance work orders properly with minimum supervision
  • Takes initiative to notice and correct problems physical plant, i.e. finishes, furnishings and fixtures, etc. without a work order or without being told by supervisor
  • Completes scheduled staff training and in-service for physical plant, building and Life Safety systems and equipment
  • Other duties as assigned
