About The Position

The Painter – Maintenance assists the painting team in maintaining and enhancing the zoo’s facilities, exhibits, and infrastructure. This role supports painting projects by preparing surfaces, mixing and applying paints, and ensuring work areas are clean and organized. The ideal candidate has basic painting skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to work in an outdoor environment. As a Painter, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by: Assist in preparing surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, and priming. Support painters in applying paint, stains, sealers, and finishes to various surfaces, including walls, buildings, fences, and animal enclosures. Mix and match paint colors as directed. Set up and maintain painting equipment, including brushes, rollers, sprayers, and ladders. Mask and cover areas to protect surfaces from paint splatter. Ensure work areas are clean and free of debris before and after painting projects. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely, following all safety protocols. Assist in minor repairs, such as patching drywall or filling cracks before painting. Follow all zoo and department safety guidelines and procedures. Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned. Upholds all company policies as outlined in the Zoo Standard Operating Procedures, SA Zoo Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct. Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic knowledge of painting tools, materials, and techniques.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Physically able to stand, kneel, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and flexible hours as needed.
  • Work is performed outdoors and indoors in a variety of settings, including animal exhibits and public areas.
  • Exposure to paint fumes, dust, and other materials is expected.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks and gloves may be required.
  • Responsible for completing all online training courses by assigned deadlines.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
  • This position requires a valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License or a valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 45 days of becoming employed.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Must be able to work in varying climate and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold).

  • Previous experience in painting or general maintenance is a plus but not required.
