About The Position

This role requires demonstrating knowledge and skills when applying protective coatings to surfaces. The Painter Journeyman will be responsible for applying paint, varnish, and other finishes to various surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray machines. This includes preparing surfaces by cleaning, removing old paint, and filling cracks and holes. The position also requires knowledge of different paint materials and their appropriate applications, as well as the ability to mix and match colors. Adherence to all safety and project rules is mandatory.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum eighteen years old
  • Able to work well with their hands
  • Ability to judge colors is important
  • Working knowledge of different application techniques
  • Working knowledge of proper care of tools
  • Working knowledge of safe use and handling of paint, solvents, and adhesives
  • Must be physically able to work for long periods of time with arms raised overhead

Responsibilities

  • Apply paint, varnish, and other finishes to walls, ceilings, and other surfaces with brushes, rollers, and spray machines.
  • Prepare surfaces to receive coatings by cleaning dirt, oil, and grease, removing old paint and wall coverings, and filling and smoothing cracks and holes.
  • Understand the materials used to make paint and the types of paints required for different materials like plaster, wood, brick, and metal.
  • Mix and match paints, requiring a good eye for color.
  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
  • Perform other duties as required.
