About The Position

This is skilled painting work involving a variety of painting tasks performed in accordance with standard trade practices. The incumbent performs skilled brush and spray painting on buildings, mechanical maintenance equipment, and automotive equipment. Work is reviewed during progress and upon completion by a technical supervisor.

The examination is scheduled for the week of November 16, 2026, at the Civil Service Board Office in Dayton, Ohio. Certified candidates will receive specific examination details by email at a later date. Final appointment is contingent on passing a job-related medical examination, providing documentation of employment authorization and identity, passing the applicable background investigation and drug screen, and passing nicotine screening for applicants offered employment. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco- and nicotine-free as a condition of continued employment; this policy does not apply to current City employees.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
• One year of experience in limited-skill painting work or completion of approved training in the trade.
• Possess a valid driver’s license at appointment and maintain it as a condition of continued employment.
• Be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Be able to perform duties at various heights, in precarious places, and under all weather conditions.
• Be able to perform duties while frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals, and while working with moving mechanical parts.
• Pass a job-related medical examination, the applicable background investigation, a drug screen, and nicotine screening if offered employment.
• Provide documentary evidence of employment authorization and identity.
