About The Position

This position is for a fully competent worker who performs a wide variety of skilled painting work. The role involves applying coats of paint or other protective and decorative coatings to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, structures, equipment, and furniture using various methods such as brush, roller, and spray gun. The Painter I may also supervise Painter Helpers or other assistants and perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • FOUR (4) YEARS of work experience in preparing various surfaces and applying coats of paint and other coatings by brush, roller, spray gun and other means; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of practices and methods in the painting trade, including safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in the painting trade.
  • Ability to use brushes, rollers, spray guns and other tools common to the painting trade.
  • Ability to prepare stencils and perform freehand lettering.
  • Ability to work from rigging and scaffolds.
  • Ability to mix and match paints.
  • Ability to recognize hazards typical of the work.
  • Ability to estimate time and materials needed to complete a job.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting, moving and other manual work typical of the class.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Some positions may require the ability to lift and carry objects of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation. The immediate vacancy has this requirement.

Responsibilities

  • May supervise one or more Painter Helpers or other helpers assisting in the work.
