About The Position

The VNA of the Treasure Coast provides compassionate, innovative care of the highest quality, setting the standard for patients and caregivers needing private care, home health, hospice, and community health services. The VNA offers its associates a competitive array of benefits and perks. The schedule for this position is a flexible part-time schedule based on Hospice House, organizational, and project needs. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to minimize disruption to patient care. The Part-Time Painter, Drywall & Maintenance Technician supports the maintenance, repair, appearance, safety, and overall physical environment of VNATC facilities, with a primary focus on supporting the Hospice House. The position performs skilled and semi-skilled work including interior and exterior painting, drywall installation and repair, wall preparation and finishing, minor carpentry, general facility repairs, preventive maintenance, room refreshes, and other routine building maintenance activities. Because a significant portion of the work is performed within the Hospice House, the Technician must complete maintenance activities with exceptional sensitivity to the needs of patients and families. Work must be planned and performed in a manner that minimizes noise, dust, odors, interruptions, and other potential disruptions to patient care and the peaceful environment of the Hospice House. The Technician is expected to independently assess routine maintenance needs, determine appropriate repair methods, complete quality work efficiently, and recognize conditions requiring escalation to management or a licensed/specialized contractor.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Valid Florida Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
Minimum of two years of relevant experience in painting, drywall repair, building maintenance, construction, property maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related trade preferred.
Demonstrated experience with professional painting and drywall repair strongly preferred.
Previous experience working in healthcare, hospice, senior care, hospitality, commercial facilities, or another occupied environment is preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant hands-on experience may be considered.
This position requires a screening through the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

Provides routine and responsive maintenance support for the Hospice House, including patient rooms, family areas, hallways, offices, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
Works collaboratively with Hospice House leadership to prioritize maintenance needs based on patient care, safety, occupancy, and operational requirements.
Coordinates the timing and location of maintenance activities to minimize disruption to patients, families, visitors, and clinical operations.
Performs room refresh and repair activities as needed, including wall repair, patching, painting, touch-ups, minor fixture repairs, trim work, and other maintenance necessary to maintain a clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment.
Responds promptly to maintenance concerns that may affect patient comfort, safety, privacy, or the functionality of the Hospice House.
Uses appropriate barriers, signage, containment practices, and work-area controls when performing maintenance in or near occupied areas.
Maintains heightened awareness of noise, dust, odors, fumes, tools, equipment, and other conditions that could affect patients or families.
Coordinates potentially disruptive work with Hospice House leadership before beginning the project.
Maintains tools, chemicals, paints, solvents, adhesives, equipment, and other maintenance materials in secured locations inaccessible to patients, visitors, or unauthorized individuals.
Immediately reports water intrusion, suspected mold, electrical concerns, structural damage, plumbing issues, environmental concerns, or other conditions requiring specialized assessment.
Demonstrates compassion, discretion, professionalism, and respect when working around patients and families experiencing end-of-life care.
Performs interior and exterior painting, touch-up work, and refinishing of walls, ceilings, doors, trim, offices, patient rooms, common areas, and other surfaces.
Prepares surfaces through cleaning, sanding, scraping, patching, caulking, priming, and other preparation necessary to achieve a professional finish.
Matches and applies paint, primer, stain, sealant, and other appropriate finishes using brushes, rollers, and standard painting equipment.
Protects flooring, furniture, medical equipment, fixtures, and surrounding areas before beginning work.
Completes touch-up painting and room or area refreshes following repairs, renovations, moves, normal wear, or as otherwise assigned.
Maintains appropriate paint, supplies, and equipment and identifies replenishment needs.
Uses products and work practices appropriate for occupied healthcare environments and follows organizational requirements regarding ventilation, odors, and environmental safety.
Performs drywall installation, patching, repair, and finishing.
Repairs holes, cracks, damaged corners, and other wall and ceiling imperfections.
Measures, cuts, fits, and secures drywall for minor installation and repair projects.
Applies joint compound, tape, texture, sanding, and finishing techniques to prepare repaired areas for painting.
Removes and replaces damaged drywall when appropriate within the scope of the position.
Repairs or replaces wall trim, baseboards, molding, and similar finishes.
Immediately reports evidence of water intrusion, suspected mold, structural deterioration, or other conditions requiring further evaluation.
Performs routine building maintenance and minor repairs throughout the Hospice House and other VNATC facilities as assigned.
Completes minor carpentry work such as repairing doors, trim, shelving, cabinets, hardware, and similar building components.
Installs or replaces door hardware, handles, shelving, wall-mounted accessories, signage, ceiling tiles, and other fixtures within the scope of the position.
Performs minor adjustments and repairs to doors, cabinets, furniture, and facility equipment.
Assists with assembly, installation, relocation, and repair of furniture and equipment.
Conducts routine visual inspections and identifies maintenance concerns before they result in larger repairs, safety concerns, or operational disruption.
Assists with preventive maintenance activities and facility improvement projects.
Responds to assigned work orders and communicates the status and completion of work.
Identifies conditions requiring a licensed or specialized contractor and promptly communicates those conditions to management.
Does not independently perform electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, life-safety system, or other regulated work requiring licensure or specialized authorization unless appropriately qualified and specifically authorized.
Assists with facility improvement projects, renovations, room conversions, furniture moves, and other projects as assigned.
Helps prepare patient rooms and other spaces for use by completing painting, patching, fixture installation, furniture assembly, and minor repairs.
Maintains clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout each project.
Removes tools, equipment, debris, and materials promptly following completion of work.
Maintains organizational tools and equipment in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
Assists with other facility maintenance responsibilities and special projects within the scope of the position.
Performs work in accordance with applicable safety requirements, organizational policies, manufacturer instructions, and established maintenance practices.
Follows Hospice House infection prevention and environmental safety requirements when performing work in patient-care areas.
Coordinates with appropriate Hospice House leadership before performing work that may generate significant dust, debris, fumes, odors, noise, or require temporary restriction of an area.
Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and safe practices when working with ladders, hand and power tools, paints, solvents, adhesives, dust-producing materials, and maintenance equipment.
Reviews and follows applicable Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements.
Maintains chemicals and potentially hazardous materials in properly labeled and secured locations.
Maintains clear hallways, exits, fire doors, and other required paths of egress while performing work.
Immediately reports unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, property damage, water intrusion, suspected mold, electrical hazards, structural concerns, or other significant facility issues.
Maintains patient, family, and associate privacy and confidentiality and complies with applicable organizational privacy requirements.
Does not access, photograph, discuss, or disclose patient information encountered while performing assigned duties.
Follows organizational requirements regarding access to patient rooms and secured or restricted areas.
