About The Position

This position is for a Shop Blaster who will be responsible for abrading surfaces of metal or hard composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impact a specified finish using abrasive-blasting equipment. The role involves operating abrasive-blasting equipment, preparing parts for blasting, and ensuring finished parts meet specifications. Safety and adherence to hazardous waste handling guidelines are paramount. The position works under immediate supervision and typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Requirements

  • ID Blast experience
  • Able to work nightshift
  • May require a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • May require previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Responsibilities

  • Shovels or pours abrasives, such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
  • Wears gloves and helmet, or hood, to protect against breathing sand-laden air and injury to eyes and hands.
  • May mask areas not being sandblasted and areas of object to protect from abrading action.
  • Loads parts on racks in enclosed rooms, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets.
  • Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel to obtain specified finish.
  • Manually directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval.
  • Reads and interprets instructions and documentation and plans work activities.
  • Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work sites.
  • May examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines.
  • Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Works under immediate supervision.
  • Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
  • Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
