About The Position

GM Design Center Fabrication is seeking a Paint Shop Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of the Design Center show vehicle and refinish Paint Shop within Design Fabrication Operations (DFO). This role involves understanding and administering GM/UAW agreements, developing property plans, and ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of all paint activities. The supervisor will oversee paint technicians and refinish specialists, manage all phases of the paint process, and ensure work meets Design Center show-quality standards.

Requirements

  • BBA or equivalent experience
  • 10 Years of automotive paint/refinish experience
  • Proven experience in the paint and refinish of show vehicles, concept vehicles, or high-end custom / prototype properties, including complex colors, special effects, and premium clear finishes
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive paint systems and processes, including preparation, masking, color matching, blending, multi-stage systems, clear coats, and polishing
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot paint and appearance issues and adjust processes, techniques, or materials in a fast-changing, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent technical breadth, organizational, administrative and leadership skills
  • Expertise in resource and workload planning, tracking and reconciliation

Responsibilities

  • Understand and consistently administer the GM/UAW National and Local UAW Agreements.
  • Develop, coordinate, and track the DCF property plan for all major property builds, concept properties and fabrication requests.
  • Ensuring a safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of all show vehicle and refinish paint activities.
  • Supervisory responsibility for a medium group of UAW Skilled Trades paint technicians and refinish specialists.
  • Oversee all phases of the paint process, including surface preparation, priming, color application, clear coat, baking, sanding, buffing, polishing, and detailing to achieve world-class show surfaces.
  • Knowledgeable of the GVDP math deliverable requirements and physical model content.
  • Ensure all painted properties and refinish work meet Design Center show-quality standards and program-specific appearance criteria.
