About The Position

Singer Vehicle Design is seeking a Paint Prep Technician to prepare luxury vehicles for painting at its Torrance, California shop. The role involves carrying out paint preparation to high standards, inspecting vehicles for flaws, preparing and repairing surfaces, and performing quality assurance inspections and revisions before the advanced paint application process. The position is onsite and scheduled Monday through Friday, 1:45 PM to 10:15 PM.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least two years of paint preparation experience for high-end luxury automobiles, hot rods, or restoration shops.
Experience painting and preparing custom or restored automobiles.
Experience filing, sanding, and grinding materials such as steel, carbon-fiber/composite, and/or fiberglass to produce surfaces ready for paint application on custom automobiles.
Experience preparing and painting materials including steel and composites.
Ability to perform quality assurance to precise company standards.
Experience using various hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
High attention to detail and ability to adhere to high standards.
Ability to work well in a dedicated, team-oriented environment.
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

File, grind, mask, prep, and sand surfaces to precise standards; apply primer and paint as needed.
Conduct quality assurance inspections and revisions before the advanced paint application process.
Clean and inspect vehicles for flaws or imperfections prior to painting.
Prepare vehicles for paint application and ensure work meets precise company standards.
Fill depressions with body filler and ensure repairs are of high quality.
Mask areas that are not meant to be painted carefully and accurately.
Use hammers and dollies to complete minor metalwork.
File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.
Replace panel bolts and align panels properly.
