About The Position

The Paint Department Lead is responsible for leading the paint department and ensuring all enclosures, tanks, and related components are painted to Coastline Power Solutions’ quality standards and customer specifications. This position oversees the daily activities of the paint team, ensures proper preparation and application processes are followed, verifies finished paint quality, and helps maintain a safe, productive, and accountable work environment. The Paint Department Lead is also responsible for coaching, training, and developing team members while addressing performance, attendance, quality, and behavioral issues through the appropriate disciplinary process.

Requirements

  • Previous supervisory or team lead experience in a manufacturing or paint environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in industrial painting, coatings, manufacturing, or a related production environment.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation and paint application processes.
  • Ability to read and understand job specifications, work instructions, and production requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to coach employees and address performance issues professionally.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience painting aluminum and steel products.
  • Knowledge of industrial primers, topcoats, spray equipment, and coating systems.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all painted products meet Coastline standards, customer requirements, and project specifications.
  • Oversee the painting of aluminum enclosures, steel tanks, and other assigned components.
  • Review job specifications, drawings, work instructions, and paint requirements before and during production.
  • Verify proper surface preparation, masking, priming, coating, drying, and final inspection processes are followed.
  • Inspect finished work for defects such as runs, sags, poor coverage, overspray, contamination, improper thickness, adhesion issues, or color mismatch.
  • Work with Quality, Engineering, Production, and Project Management to resolve paint-related issues.
  • Help identify root causes of paint defects and drive corrective actions to prevent repeat problems.
  • Ensure jobs are completed according to production schedules while maintaining quality expectations.
  • Lead, coach, and develop paint department employees.
  • Assign daily work, set expectations, and monitor progress throughout the shift.
  • Train employees on proper paint procedures, safety expectations, quality requirements, and equipment use.
  • Hold team members accountable for productivity, quality, attendance, safety, and workplace conduct.
  • Address performance concerns through coaching, documentation, and disciplinary action when needed.
  • Support employee evaluations, feedback conversations, and development plans.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and a positive work environment within the department.
  • Ensure employees follow all safety policies, PPE requirements, and paint-area procedures.
  • Monitor safe handling, storage, and use of paints, primers, solvents, chemicals, and related materials.
  • Ensure proper ventilation, housekeeping, spill prevention, and disposal practices are followed.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and equipment concerns promptly.
  • Support OSHA, environmental, and company compliance requirements related to paint operations.
  • Ensure paint booths, spray equipment, mixing equipment, air lines, filters, and related tools are maintained and used properly.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance when equipment repairs or preventive maintenance are needed.
  • Monitor material usage and help control waste, rework, and unnecessary downtime.
  • Ensure proper care and cleanliness of paint equipment and work areas.
  • Support improvements to department layout, workflow, process consistency, and efficiency.
