The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Engineering Services is seeking a Paint & Flooring Supervisor. This position provides day-to-day leadership, coordination, and oversight of assigned Paint and Finish shop staff and activities related to painting, flooring, wall repair, ceiling repair, facility finishes, and other structural work in support of hospital and facility operations. The position is responsible for supervising corrective, preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance work, while also coordinating minor flooring and finishes projects and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. This role plans, prioritizes, and assigns daily and weekly work based on operational needs, customer service expectations, project timelines, staffing levels, and the condition of assigned spaces and finishes. The position reviews work orders and service requests, monitors repair and renewal needs, and coordinates staff, materials, vendors, and affected departments to support timely completion of paint and flooring project activities. The supervisor also assists with job cost estimates, work plans, material lists, procurement of supplies and services, and related operational documentation. The position has significant responsibility for overseeing the quality and workmanship of paint, flooring, wall, ceiling, and other finish-related work, ensuring that repairs, installations, and renewal activities meet departmental standards and support a safe, functional, and well-maintained healthcare environment. This includes coordinating project-specific Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRAs) and other Engineering Services infection control documentation, ensuring staff follow required containment, barrier, and worksite practices in patient care and other sensitive environments, and supporting compliance with healthcare safety and operational requirements. This role also provides direct supervision of staff performance and development by establishing work expectations, monitoring productivity and workmanship, conducting performance reviews, supporting employee training and onboarding, and participating in recruitment, selection, and personnel actions. The position serves as a key point of contact for operational issues, service concerns, vendor coordination, and interdepartmental communication related to assigned areas of responsibility. In addition, the position supports compliance with applicable OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, infection control, and other healthcare-related standards; maintains accurate work, project, and CMMS documentation; assists with development and revision of operational procedures; and responds to emergency calls and urgent facility issues, including after-hours support as needed. Overall, this position plays a critical role in maintaining the appearance, function, safety, and regulatory compliance of facility interiors and finish systems across the organization.
