About The Position

The Pain Management Technologist (Pain Tech) functions as a scrub person during non-invasive procedures within the Nursing department. This role requires protecting the patient from various hazards, ensuring safe operation of equipment, and maintaining aseptic technique. The technologist is responsible for assembling and preparing supplies and instruments, providing them to the team during procedures, and advocating for patient safety and rights. Additionally, the role involves maintaining radiation safety, preparing instruments for processing, evaluating patient progress, documenting care, and assisting with room preparation and cleaning.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Successful completion of BLS course within 90 days of employment, or documentation of current BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a Pain Tech preferred

Responsibilities

  • Function as a scrub person during non-invasive procedures by protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources.
  • Demonstrate safe operating of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
  • Perform accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items.
  • Speak up with safety concerns acting as the patient’s advocate.
  • Adhere to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
  • Perform interventions to protect the patient from procedure site infection.
  • Assemble supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
  • Prepare and organize sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
  • Provide instruments and supplies to the team during the procedure.
  • Protect the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
  • Maintain a fire safe environment.
  • Practice and monitor aseptic technique.
  • Comply with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy.
  • Maintain radiation safety at all times in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas (when applicable).
  • Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes.
  • Document episode of care accurately, timely, completely, and legibly.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with post procedure cleaning of the procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
