About The Position

Reporting to the Payroll Manager within the Finance department, the incumbent in the Payroll Master position is responsible for the complete and rigorous management of payroll for several entities across Canada, all operating on a standardized biweekly cycle. In an environment of sustained growth driven by acquisitions and transformation initiatives, the incumbent actively contributes to the harmonization of practices and the optimization of processes. Through their expertise and diligence, they ensure the accuracy, compliance, and smooth execution of payroll operations, while strengthening employees’ trust in financial processes.

Requirements

  • Degree in accounting, administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of payroll experience, including in a multi-company and multi-province environment
  • Excellent knowledge of payroll laws and regulations in Canada
  • Experience in a high-volume biweekly payroll environment
  • Strong rigor, attention to detail, and ability to work with complex data
  • Ability to manage multiple entities and priorities in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Analytical mindset and continuous improvement orientation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and service-oriented approach
  • Bilingualism in French and English required to support pan-Canadian operations
  • Professionalism, discretion, and a strong sense of responsibility in managing sensitive information

  • Proficiency with UKG payroll systems, an asset

Responsibilities

  • Execute the full biweekly payroll cycle for a portfolio of companies across multiple Canadian provinces
  • Validate and process payroll data (hours worked, bonuses, commissions, vacation, absences, deductions, etc.) while ensuring a high level of accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, employment standards, and regulatory requirements specific to each provincial jurisdiction
  • Prepare and validate government remittances as well as tax slips (T4, Relevé 1, and other applicable forms)
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and contribute to internal and external audits
  • Act as a resource person for employees and managers for any payroll-related questions
  • Work closely with the Payroll Manager to ensure effective prioritization of activities and resolution of issues
  • Participate in the integration of new acquisitions by standardizing processes and ensuring data quality and integrity
  • Identify and propose process improvements to increase the efficiency, reliability, and traceability of operations
  • Collaborate with HR, IT, and Finance teams on transformation, implementation, or system improvement initiatives
  • Maintain strong internal controls and manage information with a high level of confidentiality
