About The Position

This role is about building a movement in Erie by leading a team of volunteers to create a space where middle schoolers feel known, loved, and invited into a relationship with Jesus. The Paid Team Leader will be the "face" of WyldLife at the school and the lead coach for their volunteer team. Young Life requires all employees to sign a Statement of Faith and adhere to their religious purposes of evangelism and discipleship. Employees must profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord, subscribe to Young Life's statements and policies, and refrain from conduct that detracts from biblical standards.

  • Profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
  • Subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.
  • Be ready, willing, and able to fulfill ministry functions required by the organization.
  • Refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life.
  • Abide by all policies and practices of Young Life, including those related to religious belief or ministry activities.

Responsibilities

  • Pray regularly for the leaders on your team and for the kids they know.
  • Spend time with Jesus on a regular basis.
  • Have an active and growing faith.
  • Actively mentor your volunteer leaders, acting as their guide in ministry.
  • Create a "radical community" among your leaders through consistent encouragement, accountability, and shared experiences.
  • Meet with every leader on your team at least once a semester to check on their soul and ministry.
  • Lead the team in planning and executing high energy outreach clubs each month.
  • Spend 1-2 hours a week "on-the-ground" at the school, being a visible, trusted adult for students and staff.
  • Recruit 1-2 new leaders and 3-4 key parents into the community each year to ensure the ministry is sustainable and local.
  • Have effective communication with parents, kids, leaders, and key people in the community through weekly & daily rhythms.
  • Set semester goals with the WL director and maintain a weekly to-do list to stay ahead of the rhythm of the school year.
  • Meet with the Wyldlife Director twice a month for coaching and area-wide strategy.
  • Lead and participate in effective Young Life ministry through training and direct field experience.
  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of active participation in a church community.
  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
  • Equip leaders, committee, and staff through key volunteer care, recruiting, team building, training, supervision, and vision casting.
  • Meet with volunteer leaders and area leadership on a regular basis.
  • Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the community.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners, and camping to other leaders.
  • Assist in training leaders, team leaders, and committee on how to work effectively in teams and develop a yearly ministry strategy.
  • Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.
  • Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.
  • Network and develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community, including principals, pastors, parents, and potential committee members.
  • Assist with camp fundraisers.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead a team to plan and conduct a new or existing Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry with excellence.
  • Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for a ministry.
  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct, and time management.
  • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability, and transparency using the mission-wide applications.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders, and donors for area records.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate, and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry.
  • Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every kid and review them on a regular basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience, and area needs.
