About The Position

This role is about building a movement in Erie, leading a team of volunteers to create a space where middle schoolers feel known, loved, and invited into a relationship with Jesus. The Paid Team Leader is the "face" of WyldLife at the school and the lead coach for their volunteer team. Young Life requires all employees to sign a Statement of Faith and adhere to specific conduct and ministry functions reflecting their exclusive Christian purposes of evangelism and discipleship.

  • Local Heart: A passion for the specific students and families in Erie.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
  • Must subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.
  • Must be ready, willing and able to fulfill ministry functions required by the organization.
  • Must refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life.
  • Must abide by all policies and practices of Young Life, including those related to religious belief or ministry activities.

Responsibilities

  • Pray regularly for the leaders on your team and for the kids they know.
  • Spend time with Jesus on a regular basis.
  • Have an active and growing faith.
  • Disciple and develop volunteer leaders by mentoring them.
  • Build a "radical community" among leaders through encouragement, accountability, and shared experiences.
  • Meet with every leader on your team at least once a semester for soul and ministry check-ins.
  • Lead the team in planning and executing high energy outreach clubs each month.
  • Spend 1-2 hours a week "on-the-ground" at the school, being a visible, trusted adult for students and staff.
  • Recruit 1-2 new leaders and 3-4 key parents into the community each year.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, kids, leaders, and key community people.
  • Set semester goals with the WL director and maintain a weekly to-do list.
  • Meet with the Wyldlife Director twice a month for coaching and area-wide strategy.
  • Lead and participate in effective Young Life ministry through training and direct field experience.
  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of active participation in a church community.
  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
  • Meet with volunteer leaders and area leadership on a regular basis.
  • Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the community.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to other leaders.
  • Assist in training leaders, team leaders and committee on effective teamwork and developing a yearly ministry strategy.
  • Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.
  • Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.
  • Network and develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community.
  • Assist with camp fundraisers.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead a team to plan and conduct a new or existing Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry with excellence.
  • Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for a ministry.
  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism.
  • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability and transparency.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry.
  • Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every kid and review them regularly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience and area needs.
  • Actively engage in training provided by area leadership.
  • Participate in individualized training supervised by the area director.
  • Become familiar with area strategy and ministry health as assigned by the area director.
  • Be introduced to personal fund-raising principles.
