About The Position

The Packout Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the safety of all operation personnel, coordinating the operations of the packaging area to meet established guidelines, and leading by example with a positive outlook. This role involves direct interaction with Packaging Leads for operational results and employee development, maintaining open communication, and collaborating with peers and other Shift Superintendents for operational stability. The superintendent will also conduct training, optimize processes for efficiency and safety, facilitate troubleshooting, and serve as a primary contact for operational and maintenance planning. Additionally, the role supports Quality and Food Safety Management Systems, is involved in employee coaching and discipline, and acts as the primary point of contact for the Packaging department to ensure production/quality compliance.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in a packaging leadership role.
  • Demonstrated extremely strong commitment and leadership in plant safety programs.
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
  • Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict, motivating, instructing and training personnel in a fair, honest and direct way.
  • Technical competence in process mechanics, instrumentation, controls, calculations and utility systems.
  • Ability to achieve and track excellence using performance-driven metrics.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time for optimal results.
  • Able to utilize independent judgment to solve problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks, meet deadlines and strive for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety of all operation personnel through daily encouragement of safe work practices, environmental awareness, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Ensures compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements to company facilities, equipment, and safety programs.
  • Leads by example with a positive outlook.
  • Coordinates the operation of the packaging area to ensure adherence to established product, environmental, safety, and quality guidelines.
  • Interacts directly with Packaging Leads to produce desired operational results and employee development.
  • Communicates concerns for safety, environmental, health, and product quality to employees.
  • Listens and responds to employee suggestions and concerns.
  • Keeps plant management informed of all matters affecting the operation of the production area, morale, and safety of employees.
  • Interacts with peers and Shift Superintendents in other production areas to provide operational stability.
  • Conducts safety and quality training meetings.
  • Provides positive reinforcement when employees are observed producing safe performance and good results.
  • Continually fine-tunes and optimizes the process to improve efficiency and safety in the production area.
  • Facilitates troubleshooting efforts and addresses production limiting factors.
  • Serves as a primary contact for operational and maintenance planning, giving guidance as to priorities.
  • Conducts daily review of paperwork (e.g., operational & Shift Supervisor round sheets, quality reports, Production Review).
  • Is available as a departmental on-call resource for resolution of any production and/or quality issues.
  • Shares in the coordination of weekly maintenance and down-day planning for the production area.
  • Leads in the development of departmental optimization projects through MOC generating, AFE generating, issuing of Work Requests, walking down and punch-list development of projects and jobs, and coordinating start-up of new processes.
  • Supports Quality and the Food Safety Management System and possibly as a member of the Food Safety Team.
  • Is involved in employee coaching and discipline.
  • Is the primary point of contact for the Packaging department and partners with them to ensure production/quality compliance.

  • Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
