About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment and overseeing production processes within the department. The Packing Supervisor will coach junior leaders, provide guidance for daily operations, and handle personnel issues. They will evaluate production processes for improvements, communicate specifications, and monitor the truck schedule to ensure timely order fulfillment. The supervisor will also ensure team members have the necessary resources, coordinate with other departments to resolve production issues, and conduct daily shift start huddles. A significant portion of the role involves being on the production floor, operating equipment like the autoclave, and coordinating the flow of materials through various stages of production. The supervisor must have a comprehensive understanding of all departmental sections, including Autoclave, Bagging, Inspection, LPC, Buffing, Box Building, and Closing. Additional responsibilities include accepting challenging assignments and training other team members.

  • Previous supervisory management experience.
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

  • Self-directed/self-managed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe working environment for all team members in the department.
  • Coach and mentor junior leaders to develop their team leadership skills.
  • Provide guidance for day-to-day operations and delegate specific tasks.
  • Handle personnel issues as they arise and coordinate with the shift supervisor and department manager.
  • Give positive recognition and corrective actions to team members.
  • Provide and support HR and Safety with beneficial information and paperwork.
  • Evaluate production processes to identify areas for improvement and implement ideas with the department manager.
  • Communicate new product and customer specifications to team members.
  • Monitor the Truck Schedule to ensure timely and complete customer order fulfillment.
  • Ensure team members have the necessary tools and resources to complete orders.
  • Coordinate with production team members, Shift Supervisor, and QC to solve problems causing rejects and improve first-time yields.
  • Conduct daily shift start huddles to discuss safety, quality, efficiency, and production.
  • Operate the autoclave and maneuver glass racks.
  • Coordinate the daily schedule of production tasks for moving laminated glass.
  • Perform autoclave start-up, monitoring, and shut-down activities.
  • Provide updates and/or reports of productivity to the department supervisor.
  • Understand all aspects of each section within the department (Autoclave, Bagging, Inspection, LPC, Buffing, Box Building, Closing).
  • Spend 90% of scheduled shift time on the production floor and 10% on administrative duties.
  • Accept more challenging assignments as experience and knowledge allow.
  • Train others in strength areas as needed.
