About The Position

The primary function of this position is to inspect fruit for defects according to specifications provided (i.e. color, shape, bruises, softness, grade, sunburn and punctures). As the fruit moves across the sorting table, the worker will sort out defective fruit. Additionally, the worker will remove any leaves or debris from the fruit and will need to be able to work with packaging equipment, focus on distribution of final product while maintaining consistent work flow.

Requirements

• Constant standing, use of both hands, manual & finger dexterity for rolling/manipulating fruits for inspection, grasping and handling fruit to transfer them to a cull chute/tote
• Constant reaching below shoulder height to work off the sorting table, rolling, transferring or discarding fruits.
• Constant lifting 0 - 1 pound to lift/place fruit into the cull chutes
• Infrequent twisting and bending at waist when leaning/reaching - varies according to variety and quality of cherries being processed
• Seldom to occasional walking and climbing stairs to and from assigned workstation. The exact number of stairs that are required to be climbed varies according to the assigned workstation
• Senses: hearing, sight (near, far, color)
• Constant standing, use of both hands, repeatedly hand movement with the packaging equipment
• Constant reaching below shoulder height to grab packing material, transferring final product
• Constant lifting 25 pound
• Infrequent twisting and bending at waist when leaning/reaching-varies according to variety and quality of final product
• Communicate well with others
• Follow verbal directions
• Ability to do highly repetitive physical work, paying attention to detail
• Knowledge of fruit grades and sizes desirable
• Fruit packing experience desired
• Ability to stand in the same place for a long period of time
• Ability to work under wet conditions
