About The Position

The Packaging Utility Operator ensures that shipments meet plant order requirements and are loaded according to load securement policies. This role is responsible for packaging the correct product following plant instructions, operating the bulk bag system, ensuring bag weights are within the specified range, and warehousing product as it is produced. The Packaging Plant Utility Operator reports to the Packaging Complex Production Supervisor. This is a 2nd shift position, working from 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be qualified to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow safety policy manuals, MSHA regulations, SOP’s, SDS, and various production schedules/reports.
  • Must be able to repetitively lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to move 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.
  • Frequently operates a forklift.
  • Frequently requires clean up of limestone spillage which includes sweeping and shoveling material.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with Mandatory Minimum Standards, including air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules.
  • Monitors equipment for visible emissions, shuts down equipment with visible emissions, and reports emissions to the area coordinator. Deals with petroleum spills properly.
  • Operates and monitors bulk sack/bag systems, ensuring sack/bag weights are within specification. May perform manual stacking to fix damaged or poorly stacked pallets.
  • Follows FSMA guidelines in daily product production.
  • Keeps the palletizer supplied with pallets, dividers, and other necessary supplies.
  • Warehouses finished product, ensuring it is placed in designated rows.
  • Inspects trucks and loads them according to plant procedures.
  • Fills out paperwork such as work orders, sample tags, and forklift inspection reports.
  • Stencils product with customer information, lot numbers, and material identification; repalletizes product and dumps nonconforming product.
  • Maintains a neat and safe work area, warehouse, and outside plant area using good housekeeping practices.
  • Assists with preventive maintenance and downtime maintenance repairs.
  • Learns and observes all applicable company policies and safe practices, and performs all duties assigned by the production supervisor.
  • Relieves Packaging Plant Operator when needed or directed.
  • Ensures compliance with the ISO 9001 quality standard.
  • Inspects Van trucks (FSMA and non-FSMA) before loading according to plant instructions and procedures.
  • Completes paperwork corresponding to loads, including load sheets, lot numbers of pallets, and ensures the correct line of the order is loaded.
  • Ensures pallets are neat and undamaged.
  • Notifies the Production Supervisor of any problems that may impact a confirmed finished product customer ship date.
  • Sends samples to the lab to ensure compliance with quality control specifications and labels pallets accordingly (Green tag for good, Red tag if out of spec).
  • Uses a handheld scanner for bar coding and inventory needs.
