About The Position

The Packaging Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring all products meet written quality specifications. This role involves maintaining the Quality laboratory, performing analytical tests on raw ingredients, work in progress, and final products. The technician will also monitor and inspect bagged products and labels before shipment, and maintain all quality records to comply with USDA and other regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills needed for data entry.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Slip resistant shoes mandatory.

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual is not required but is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper date code sequence is applied to products and shipping boxes.
  • Conduct written programs for bag weight control.
  • Randomly inspect final product from each machine.
  • Ensure corrective actions are taken for out-of-spec product.
  • Maintain the laboratory and order supplies as necessary.
  • Perform analytical tests on products (FFA, moisture, seasoning, bag fill, air fill, etc).
  • Inspect incoming lard and oil shipments and perform analytical tests as necessary.
  • Help maintain a clean and safe processing area.
  • Perform pre-op inspections.
  • Conduct ATP Swabs and other quality tests.
  • Ensure all employees are following GMPs.
  • Perform verification prior to start-up and at every change over during the shift.
  • Follow the HACCP program and all other supporting programs.
  • Understand basic electrical Lock Out Tag Out principles.
  • Wear hearing protection in all areas of the plant.
  • Wear protective eyewear as necessary in the lab and when collecting samples from the fryer.
  • Follow all common employee safety practices.
  • Understand SDS sheets and the safe use of chemicals.
  • Participate in chemical safety training.
  • Understand Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Understand the HACCP program.
  • Understand the written allergen program.
  • Understand the glass and hard plastics policy.
  • Understand the AIB audit process.
  • Identify food safety violations in the production area.
  • Follow all food safety regulations.
