About The Position

Operates a machine which bags finished products. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient packaging of dry pet food products, maintaining quality control, and participating as an active member of the production team. The operator will work with various systems and processes to support the company's operating objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes (below 40 to over 100 degrees).
  • Must be able to work on feet for entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 55 pounds of packaged product from floor to shoulder height.
  • Must be able to empty package into packaging cylinder repetitively.
  • Must be able to hold 55 pounds of finished product inside a bag.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs/ladders to heights of up to 150 feet.
  • Must be able to work inside or outside.
  • Will use head covering, ear plugs, safety glasses, non-skid steel toed boots, and any other protective equipment as needed or required.
  • Previous machine operation skills, particularly packaging equipment skills preferred.
  • Manufacturing experience in pet food production preferred.
  • Military experience valued.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a machine for packaging dry pet food products.
  • Checks holding bins for proper product storage.
  • Ensures accuracy of codes on bags.
  • Assures product bag seals properly.
  • Accurately documents production lots utilized for quality assurance.
  • Works with other employees to rotate positions.
  • Reports line or machine problems to the Packaging Lead.
  • Participates as a member of the Team, fostering cohesiveness and supporting team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Accepts responsibility to identify areas lacking cohesiveness and works with the team leader and team to resolve issues.
  • Reinforces actions needed to achieve synergy within the organization.
  • Understands and supports Simmons’ established operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies).
  • Considers the impact of individual actions on systems and communicates concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
