About The Position

The Packaging Mechanic sets up production equipment and ensures its continuous operation. The core of the job involves setting up equipment for each product change, which includes new tooling, settings, and machine parameters. The role also focuses on preventing equipment downtime, as any stoppage affects the entire production line.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Demonstrated mechanical ability — industrial, manufacturing, military, agricultural, or serious hobbyist
Comfort with touchscreen HMI control panels, or clear aptitude for learning them
Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment manuals
Solid basic math, including decimals, fractions, and unit conversions
Ability to weigh and measure accurately when verifying setup
Legible handwriting for maintenance and setup records
Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb, and work in confined positions

Responsibilities

Set up and change over filling, sealing, labeling, and coding equipment for each product and package size.
Enter and verify machine parameters through touchscreen HMI control panels, including recipes, fill volumes, speeds, temperatures, and timing.
Interpret HMI fault codes and alarms and clear them at the source.
Install, adjust, and align change parts and tooling.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical faults.
Perform preventive maintenance on schedule and document it legibly.
Verify fill weights and settings against specification during setup and startup.
Work with Production and Quality to resolve line issues without compromising product quality.
Recommend and carry out improvements that reduce changeover time and downtime.
