About The Position

The Packaging Manager oversees daily packaging operations, leading teams, managing equipment, ensuring quality/safety, optimizing efficiency, controlling costs, handling budgets, scheduling, and collaborating with Maintenance and QA for continuous improvement, driving production to meet targets while maintaining high standards and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Prior management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated occupational health & safety and food safety competency (hazard recognition, legislation, safety practices)
  • Excellent interpersonal/listening skills in order to interact with a diverse workforce; a communicator with proven leadership abilities

Responsibilities

  • Follow up with any and all safety issues and lead the packaging department’s safety initiatives with the goal of reducing incidents and accidents to zero. Work with the team to ensure communication lines remain open and any follow up is conducted quickly and properly.
  • Work with all teams including, JHSC, planning, quality control, maintenance, scheduling, logistics, operations teams etc. to ensure the smooth operation of the plant.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement activities and implementation of Lean tools.
  • Monitor and report daily and weekly packaging results, follow up with labor, equipment and quality issues daily.
  • Plans and manages the departmental budget.
  • Assists in the scheduling and planning team’s development of production schedules to maintain appropriate inventory of finished inventory.
  • Assist in the development of new formats and SKUs. Assess feasibility and constraints with existing equipment and provide bag rates, OEE’s and waste estimates for all new SKUs.
  • Partner with Engineering to optimize equipment.
  • Directs quality control inspection system and develops packaging production reporting procedures.
  • Partner with the maintenance team to follow up with mechanical issues and develop equipment maintenance schedules for preventative maintenance control. Recommends the replacement of machines, parts, layout for maximum output.
  • Hires, supervises and trains or oversees the training of employees in the use of new equipment or packaging production techniques, for safety, sanitary requirements, quality control needs.
