The Packaging Machine Operator, under the general supervision, is responsible for the safe, efficient and continuous operation of snack packaging machinery. This role involves maintaining shift documentation, reading production schedules, printing labels, performing nitrogen testing, and ensuring the efficient operation of packaging machinery by monitoring codes, dates, and prices. The operator will also maintain an adequate supply of roll stock and packaging materials, set up and write new programs for bag makers, and edit machine logic to maintain efficiency and low waste. Additionally, the role includes performing preventative maintenance, making minor repairs and adjustments to equipment such as scales and formers, and operating packaging equipment including case sealers and robot cells. This encompasses machine setups, troubleshooting, changeovers, proper running, procedural adjustments, sanitation, preventative maintenance, and shutdown procedures. The operator must plan ahead for changeovers, monitor and adjust machines for proper film cut-off and seals, ensure machines run at standard speeds, monitor product appearance, adhere to weight control programs, and resolve quality issues. They are responsible for accounting for and handling product run-off, sorting and reworking good product, and keeping machines and work areas clean. Immediate reporting of maintenance problems and adherence to safety and hygiene guidelines are crucial. The role may involve maintaining shift documentation, providing leadership to packers, acting as a Back-up Packaging Coordinator, monitoring and replenishing seasoning, and performing other duties as required. Mandatory overtime may be required.
