The person in this role will be based at the Medtronic facility located in North Haven, Connecticut. The Packaging Engineer’s purpose is to create and innovate packaging of new products/processes and support their implementation in multiple manufacturing facilities. Additionally, the Packaging Engineer will provide support in the areas of cost reductions, identification and procurement of new packaging machinery, and packaging documentation. In this role, you will be supporting sterile and non-sterile medical device packaging design and ensuring alignment with applicable packaging requirements and guidance. This role will lead cross-functional review meetings with multiple facilities to address packaging-related issues, provide packaging engineering support to departments such as R&D, and create, revise, and maintain packaging specifications and related documentation.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 0+ years of experience with an advanced degree
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
  • Possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment (for roles below Principal level).

Responsibilities

  • Identify and support cost reduction opportunities in regards to Packaging.
  • Provide technical support and training to manufacturing in regards to packaging systems and machinery.
  • Prepare packaging validation protocols and reports to support packaging changes.
  • Perform packaging validation testing to support changes.
  • Support material qualifications for packaging changes such as resin material changes.
  • Create and update packaging specifications for manufacturing.
  • Assist in artwork creation and revisions for product packaging.
  • Operate various testing apparatus in qualifying packaging changes.
  • Create sterilization pallet patterns as well as non-sterile pallet patterns for manufacturing locations.
  • Contributes to Project Engineering and R&D schedules and plans.
  • Prepares monthly progress reports on projects.
  • Provides work direction to lab technicians.
  • Conduct review meetings with multiple facilities regarding packaging issues.
  • Provide support to various departments such as R&D regarding packaging issues.
  • Create and update packaging specifications for documentation.
