About The Position

Assists the machine operator by coordinating on production needs, relieving for breaks, and training and managing other packers on the line. This role is responsible for coordinating with the operator on product running, setting boxes, and line setup. The assistant operator will manage packers on the line while also working the line, teaching new packers, and helping other packagers complete their tasks. They will also perform and complete LUV label returns, assist with Pallet Tracking issues, and operate a pallet jack, including training new employees on its use. Additionally, the assistant operator must be able to operate the machine when the primary operator is absent or to facilitate breaks and lunches.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Must have basic knowledge of computers and the ability to input data into the computer.
  • Regularly required to physically perform the following: Lift and/or move 25-50 pounds 150-300 times during the shift.
  • Stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift.
  • Use hands to finger, grip, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Talk and hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with the operator to see what products are running, set boxes, and setting up lines.
  • Manage packers on the line while also working the line.
  • Teach new packers.
  • Help other packagers complete shops for the day.
  • Perform and complete LUV label returns and teach new packers how to use the system.
  • Assist other packers with issues in Pallet Tracking.
  • Operate a pallet jack and train new employees on how to use it.
  • Know how to work the machine and run it when the operator is gone and/or to help rotate for breaks and lunches if needed.
