About The Position

This role is for a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to provide pediatric primary care. The position emphasizes patient-centered care, improving clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, safety, and value. The role is part of the Yale New Haven Health System, which includes multiple hospitals and a physician-led group. Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and go through the Medical Staff credentialing process.
  • Evidence of current competence to practice as an APRN, PA, CRNA, or CNM must be provided.
  • Active PA Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Connecticut State Physician Assistant License.
  • ACLS/BLS Certified, when indicated for position profile.
  • DEA License.
  • Pediatric position profile PALS, when indicated for neonatal care NRP Certification.
  • Connecticut State Registered Nurse License.
  • Connecticut State Nurse Practitioner License.
  • Board specialty certification, as appropriate for position profile.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical working experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide optimal patient care, from diagnostic to prognostic matters, in inpatient, ambulatory, or outpatient settings.
  • Collaborate with attending supervising/collaborating physician(s) in accordance with state law and hospital regulations, hospital policy, protocols, and clinical pathways.
  • Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, review/order diagnostic/therapeutic tests and radiologic results.
  • Formulate and manage patient treatment plans.
  • Perform procedures, prescribe treatment and medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines, and within scope of practice.
  • Function as first or second assistant on operative cases if within position scope and educational prerequisites.
  • Respond to emergency situations within YNHHS parameters.
  • Educate patients/families on care and recommended resources, including admitting instructions, treatment plans, side effects of treatments/medications, and discharge plans.
  • Provide psychosocial support to patients, their family members, and significant others.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Protect information of all forms from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with patient-related healthcare regulatory requirements, standards, and recommendations.
  • Continuously engage in projects that maintain and advance professional competency.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for new house staff and provide service-specific orientation.
  • Report safety events and near misses.
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor for NP/PA students and other healthcare professionals.
  • Serve as a mentor to pre-PA/NP candidates.
  • Collaborate on research, quality assurance, and performance improvement projects.
  • Assist with the formation of protocols for clinical practice or to further educational and clinical expertise.
