About The Position

BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital is hiring an experienced Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our team in Scottsdale, AZ! This role is for individuals looking to advance their career in the veterinary field, possess a strong passion for veterinary medicine, and wish to work with dedicated, highly skilled veterinary professionals. As an Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will be responsible for calculating basic medical math, compassionately handling patients, understanding medication classifications and side effects, administering medications, performing phlebotomy, placing peripheral intravenous catheters, alerting veterinarians to patient status changes, performing physical exams, intubating patients under supervision, supporting the euthanasia process, and accurately following treatment sheet orders.

Requirements

  • Experienced Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician
  • Ability to calculate basic medical math.
  • Ability to compassionately, calmly, and gently approach and handle patients.
  • Understanding of the classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
  • Ability to administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy.
  • Ability to place a peripheral intravenous catheter in the cephalic vein.
  • Ability to alert Veterinarian if the patient's status changes and/or physical exam or monitoring parameters are outside of normal ranges.
  • Ability to perform physical exams; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
  • Ability to intubate patients under the direction of a Level II technician or higher.
  • Ability to support Veterinarian and client through the euthanasia process.
  • Ability to read and follow orders written on the treatment sheet accurately and promptly.
