About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brentwood, TN is hiring experienced Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technicians. This role is for individuals who are passionate about emergency veterinary cases and providing care and comfort to critically ill or injured pets. The successful candidate will join a team of experienced technicians, assistants, ER doctors, and specialists to deliver exceptional care for pets. The position is located in the growing Nashville area, known for its vibrant culture and amenities.

Requirements

  • Experienced Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technicians
  • Ability to work Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday shifts from 7 pm to 7 am.
  • Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced emergency and specialty care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs physical exams, accurately counting heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Understands normal vital parameters and alerts the doctor when abnormal.
  • Performs phlebotomy.
  • Places peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.
  • Reads and follows orders written on the treatment sheet accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Alerts the veterinarian if a patient's status has changed and/or physical exam or monitoring parameters are outside of normal ranges.
  • Calculates basic medical math.
  • Understands the classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
  • Administers medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Prepares medications and patient for discharge and communicates discharge instructions to the client.
  • Maintains a solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and can converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.
  • Addresses client concerns and answers them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization, within their skill set.
  • Quickly and competently facilitates incoming calls.
  • Implements appropriate animal husbandry skills to decrease disease spread, injury, and stress to patients.
  • Provides nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assists with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Remains current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in the designated role as assigned by the attending clinician and/or supervisor.
