Rosie’s Place is a multi-service community center founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Its mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where poor and homeless women can maintain dignity, seek opportunity, and find security. The organization provides meals, shelter, support, housing, and education services, and does not accept city, state, or federal funding. Reporting to the Overnight Shelter Manager, the Overnight Shelter Advocate provides overnight guests with a welcoming, safe, respectful, and dignified atmosphere. The advocate offers culturally inclusive support and assistance and helps keep guests sheltered, safe, and healthy, consistent with Rosie’s Place’s mission, philosophy, and policies. The role is onsite during the work week and involves regular engagement with staff, guests, and volunteers. Employees must follow the organization’s public-health safety protocols and be up to date with yearly vaccinations; requests for exemptions are considered.
