About The Position

At House of Friendship, we are hiring for an individual to join our Live-In Addiction Treatment team as an Overnight Attendant. The successful applicant will provide overnight support to treatment program participants, working collaboratively with the staff team to facilitate program related activities. This is a permanent, part-time (27 hours per week) position with personal days and vacation pay; group health benefits and defined contribution pension plan. Schedule is every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 11:00pm to 8:00am (overnight, primarily asleep). Option to pick up additional Overnight Attendant shifts in a relief capacity, as needed and as available. Successful completion of a Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) required pre-employment.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 high school, required
  • Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
  • Exemplary emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, conflict management and problem solving skills required
  • Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members
  • Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and sensitivity to their needs
  • Experience with and commitment to using an anti-racism, anti-oppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation, program design, evaluations of processes and service delivery
  • Must be dependable, professional, flexible, a team player, and have a positive attitude
  • Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, addictions, mental illness and other life challenges
  • Sensitivity to and knowledge of issues relating to and impacting on all genders and marginalized populations

  • Previous experience in a social service setting is considered an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complexities of substances, problematic substance use and recovery-oriented interventions is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the residence during the overnight hours and ensure that program guidelines are being followed
  • Complete building safety checks
  • Establish and maintain a helping relationship with program participants while upholding appropriate professional boundaries
  • Complete administrative tasks
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)
  • Complete documentation and data entry in accordance with agency and legislative requirements
  • Assess complex situations and making appropriate decisions independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team including crisis intervention, risk assessment and safety planning
  • Provide crisis and life skills support
  • Support with medication processes including communication with pharmacies and doctor’s, reviewing and creating necessary medication documents, and providing access to medication
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members
