About The Position

The DHHS Public Health Division is seeking a Community Health Educator to support overdose prevention initiatives throughout Nebraska. This role involves assisting in program design, implementation, and monitoring, developing grant applications and work plans, engaging partners, and providing technical assistance and training on evidence-based strategies. The position also requires monitoring and managing contracts/subawards to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent coursework/training in community health education, biological science, adult/continuing education or related field AND experience in public/community health education activities with responsibility for: developing, evaluating, and leading health education program activities; assessing health needs; writing and designing educational and informational material, training aids, and presentations; preparing grant proposals; or planning and leading group sessions.
  • Related experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

  • Master's degree in public or community health, business or public administration, social/behavioral sciences, health sciences, healthcare, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working in public or community health, public administration, healthcare, or related field.
  • Experience writing and managing federal grants and contracts/subawards and performing quality assurance and monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, implementation, and monitoring of program evaluation and performance measures to ensure the goals and objectives of the program are met.
  • Assist in the development of annual grant applications, budgets, work plans, and annual progress reports.
  • Engage internal/external partners to determine assets, deficits, resources, and gaps in activities & facilitate collaborative relationships as appropriate.
  • Plan and provide technical assistance and training to contractor/subrecipients, and other partners on evidence-based strategies, policies, and system changes to improve drug overdose prevention activities.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of multiple contracts/subawards to assure adherence to federal and state regulations.
  • Monitor, review, and audit contractor/subawardee progress and financial reports and/or records to ensure compliance with appropriate state/federal statutes, rules, and regulations and develop corrective action plans as needed to address issues.
