About The Position

Bureau Veritas Canada is seeking an Outsourced Laboratory (OSL) Supervisor to oversee daily operations of a laboratory located at a client mine site. This role involves supervising Mining Laboratory Analysts and performing routine tasks related to sample preparation, fusion, and XRF analyses. Requirements

  • Science degree, or diploma in science with relevant experience in a similar laboratory environment
  • Chemistry experience and superior understanding of chemistry principles
  • 3+ years laboratory experience
  • At least 2-years’ experience in a leadership position
  • Proficient with MS Office software
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Supervising all laboratory operations including sample login, sample preparation, fusion process, XRF analysis, data validation & reporting.
  • Monitoring workload and shift activities to meet test deadlines and lab operations requirements.
  • Participating in employee management and employee training.
  • Maintaining, servicing, and upgrading lab equipment as needed.
  • Conducting QA/QC programs to validate XRF data and analytical methods.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting analytical performance issues and documenting resolutions.
  • Preparing reference materials for calibration of instruments and keeping instruments within limits.
  • Assisting in managing lab consumables and inventory, ensuring adequate supplies for seamless lab operations.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in various areas of the laboratory.
  • Providing input for KPI performance reports to client and BV senior management.
  • Leading a safety-first culture, ensuring all staff, contractors and visitors wear PPE and follow safety rules.
  • Assisting in complete incident investigation reports for any first aid injury, developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensuring proper environmental compliance in waste disposal, dust control, and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Serving as BV’s alternate contact with client site personnel.
  • Participating in client or BV production meetings, as required.
  • Overseeing special projects as requested by client.
  • Working as part of a bigger team with other BV managers to continuously improve systems.
  • Proactive monitoring of analytical charts and other quality issues that may arise during routine sample analysis, with documented resolution to issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with all client site HSE/HR policies and procedures as well as BV Group Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the position.
  • Participating in safety tailgate meetings with staff regularly.
  • Participating in PPE audits.
  • Participating in monthly worksite inspections of their area.
  • Ensuring hazard assessments and critical task analyses are done within their area of responsibility.
  • Monitoring staff and holding them accountable for their individual safety performance.
  • Acting in a safe and professional manner and wearing appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensuring that all staff complete their workload on schedule and assisting as required.
  • Assisting with onboarding, training, providing both technical and safety training, scheduling, and conflict resolution, as required.
  • Ensuring technical and safety training is continuously updated and conducted for all employees.
  • Actively participating in hazard identifications and reporting.
  • Developing and maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned from time to time.
