About The Position

This job is in the Outside Sales job family, which includes positions whose duties are to perform or supervise work involved in promoting and maintaining sales by originating and developing leads and performing sales on-site, face to face and in person. The role involves serving as the in-person customer contact, selling products and services by highlighting features/benefits, answering inquiries, resolving issues, and facilitating the completion of required documentation. It also includes promoting the company, products, and services through networking and creating rapport with customers via in-person sales calls and other channels. The position requires selectively entertaining customers within a budget, maintaining that budget, and submitting monthly expense reports. A key aspect is acquiring and updating general knowledge of the metals industry, including potential customers, competitors, and business trends, as well as continually upgrading knowledge of company products, services, equipment, programs, and corporate policies. The salesperson will partner with customers within assigned territories to identify needs and provide solutions, interact with sales and operations teams to increase sales, and assess customer buying potential and profitability through strategy and action plans. Developing new prospects and interacting with existing customers to identify leads and increase sales are crucial. The role involves maintaining customer records, preparing itineraries and call logs, scheduling and performing cold calls and calls to existing customers, and displaying or demonstrating products. Answering customer questions about products, prices, availability, and uses, developing and maintaining effective customer relationships, providing customer service, and resolving complaints are also key responsibilities. The position requires inquiring about and monitoring customer satisfaction, promoting feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement, and making recommendations for product enhancements. Developing or entering formal quotations, negotiating pricing and agreements, and following up on quotes are essential. The role also includes facilitating the execution of agreements by coordinating with operations and assisting with Inside Sales when necessary. Adherence to safety processes and protocols is mandatory, along with performing other duties assigned by management.

Requirements

  • 1-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
  • High School diploma/GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must possess a Valid Driver's License and be able to meet company insurability standards.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services required.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service required.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective processing and distribution of material required.
  • Understanding of company product(s) and their uses required.
  • Knowledge of the metals industry required.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly a strong virtual presence and listening skills required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including analysis, knowledge and experience, and judgment required.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers and customers required.
  • Strong computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft applications required.

Responsibilities

  • Interacting with other members of the sales and operations team to assist in penetrating specific territory or market to increase sales levels and contractual opportunities.
  • Assessing and maximizing the buying potential, profitability and product/service requirements of customers through creation of a sales strategy and action plan.
  • Developing new prospects and interacting with existing customers to identify leads and increase the sales of products and services.
  • Maintaining customer records using appropriate automated systems and prepares itineraries and call logs.
  • Scheduling and performing cold calls and calls to existing customers in assigned territory.
  • Displays or demonstrates product using samples or catalogs.
  • Highlighting product features based on a technical knowledge of product capabilities and limitations.
  • Answering customers' questions about products, prices, availability, and product uses.
  • Developing/maintaining effective relationships with customers, providing customer service and complaint resolution.
  • Regularly inquiring and monitoring customer satisfaction in regard to quality of products, services and deliveries.
  • Promoting feedback mechanisms for customers to influence the continuous improvement of operations and/or production and makes recommendations for potential product enhancements or modifications to increase sales.
  • Developing or entering formal quotations into appropriate system or format and provides them to customers.
  • Negotiating certain pricing and/or agreements, following established guidelines and/or approvals.
  • Following up with all quotes in a timely manner and according to policy.
  • Facilitating execution of accepted agreements, coordinating with operations to ensure all terms are followed.
  • Assisting with Inside Sales when necessary.
  • Responsible for adhering to safety processes and protocols.
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.
