About The Position

Piedmont Electric Motor, an MCE Company, is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to sell industrial services and custom fabrication solutions. With over 50 years of experience, Piedmont is a leading partner for North Carolina manufacturers needing electric motor repair, overhead crane and hoist installation, custom fabrication and welding, machining, and material handling solutions. The Outside Sales Representative will manage a territory, develop new accounts, nurture existing customer relationships, and collaborate with engineering and technical teams to deliver customized solutions. This role is ideal for a results-driven, mechanically savvy sales professional passionate about industrial customers and building lasting partnerships.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of outside sales experience with a proven track record of hitting targets and growing a territory.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude; ability to understand industrial equipment and have credible technical conversations with engineers, plant managers, and maintenance teams.
  • Working knowledge of assembly, fabrication, power units, lubrication systems, and/or electrical controls.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Excel; comfortable with CRM platforms (Microsoft Dynamics or similar).
  • Valid driver's license; ability to travel regularly throughout the territory.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in industrial sales (motors, cranes, fabrication, machining, or material handling).
  • Ability to read building blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical diagrams.
  • Established customer relationships in North Carolina manufacturing or industrial markets.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve sales targets by retaining existing customers and actively developing new business across industrial applications throughout the territory.
  • Research local markets to identify emerging opportunities, new target accounts, and competitor activity.
  • Build genuine rapport with customers, developing a deep understanding of their operations and core business profit drivers.
  • Provide strategic recommendations, customized pricing, and tailored solutions across Piedmont's full service offering: electric motors, crane & hoist, custom fabrication, machining, and material handling.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling quotes and proposals; negotiate terms and close transactions on both standard service and complex project work.
  • Initiate and manage the full sales cycle from prospecting and presentations to follow-up and close.
  • Work with OEMs, engineers, and technical staff to clarify customer requirements and develop specs for custom applications.
  • Oversee delivery, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of systems, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain strong, long-term customer relationships that generate repeat business and referrals.
  • Record all account, contract, and sales activity in CRM daily.
