About The Position

The Outside Plant Technician maintains Verizon’s outside plant facilities to help ensure they operate efficiently and are prepared for service needs. The role involves placing, rearranging, and removing outside plant facilities and associated hardware; connecting wires and cables; interpreting engineering work orders; performing construction tasks with designated equipment; and operating company vehicles to transport equipment. The position is onsite at a defined work location and has scheduled weekly hours of 40. Work may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts based on business needs.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Knowledge of outside plant and construction.
• Ability to stay organized and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

• A related associate degree or at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Completion of the Verizon Technician Program or a similar program covering electrical or lineman training.

Responsibilities

• Place, rearrange, and remove outside plant facilities, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block, and house cables, poles, and associated hardware and fixtures.
• Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
• Read and interpret engineering work orders.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment, including digging holes and placing poles.
• Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights to transport equipment.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Perceive differences in wire and cable colors, and move and lift items generally not exceeding 100 pounds.
• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as determined by business needs.
