Outside Machinist (Rigger) Outside Machinists at Saronic-Franklin (titled as “Riggers”) are expected to have the knowledge, skill, and ability to accomplish the below:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • This role requires access to export-controlled information or items that require “U.S. Person” status.   • Job Proficiency: Use precision instruments (e.g., micrometers, dial indicators) to achieve proper alignment and fit
  • Job Proficiency: Operate machine tools and portable equipment (e.g., lathes, boring bars, milling machines) to modify or fabricate parts as needed
  • Job Proficiency: Support installation of air conditioning and refrigeration systems
  • Job Proficiency: Cutting (circular, reciprocating, miter, and chop saws), grinding, and assembly of metal structural parts using fitting aids and rigging equipment to align parts according to blueprints
  • Job Proficiency: Use pipe cutting machine, pipe threading machine, and pipe beveling machine
  • Job Proficiency: Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and heavy hammers
  • Job Proficiency: Straighten warped or bent parts using sledge, hand torch, straightening press, and push-pull methods.
  • Job Proficiency: Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment using welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Job Proficiency: Inspect and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods
  • Job Proficiency: Perform layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of pipe systems according to specifications
  • Job Proficiency: Install fittings and equipment
  • Job Proficiency: Install windows and doors
  • Job Proficiency: Install mast and mast equipment
  • Job Proficiency: Inspect all equipment daily (torch, torch hoses, grinder, levels, tapes, etc.)
  • Culture and Collaboration: Follow all shipyard safety policies, including proper use of PPE, fire prevention, and confined space protocols.
  • Culture and Collaboration: Assist in the training and development of junior riggers
  • Culture and Collaboration: Collaborate and communicate with welders, metal fitters, pipefitters, electricians, and other trades as required to complete vessel construction or repair and to maintain efficient work flows
  • Culture and Collaboration: Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environment
