About The Position
The Outrider is responsible for opening and closing the racetrack to horse training at designated hours. This role involves catching horses that get loose during workouts, contacting appropriate personnel when injuries occur, and enforcing training and equipment regulations on the track. The Outrider also works live racing when required.
Requirements
- 3 years of work experience as an exercise rider and handling horses
Responsibilities
- Opens and closes the racetrack to horse training at designated hours
- Catches horses that get free during workouts
- Contacts appropriate personnel when injuries occur
- Enforces training and equipment regulations on the track
- Works live racing when required
- Patrols the racetrack during training and racing hours to look for debris and foreign objects
- Leads horses in the post parade on to the racetrack
- Ensures that mounts are properly maintained
- Monitors skill-sets of exercise riders
- Reports to leadership when there are infractions or disruptions to or by exercise riders breaking/not adhering to rules
