About The Position

The Outreach Specialist will provide outreach and engagement services, particularly during overnight shifts, to homeless individuals. This role involves utilizing local resource networks to engage clients, coordinating referrals with other agencies to meet client needs, and working cooperatively with service providers and funding sources. The specialist will also participate in resolving crisis situations, facilitate hospitalizations when necessary, and maintain liaisons with the community and service providers. Additionally, the role includes monitoring trends in the homeless community, advocating for clients, and encouraging their active participation in recovery.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and a minimum of (3) years of relevant experience in substance abuse counseling; or any combination of experience, education or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skill and ability required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a focused team.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to drive a passenger van.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC), preferred or on-going coursework in Drug and Alcohol Counseling to qualify for certification.
  • Mental Health knowledge desired

Responsibilities

  • Providing outreach and engagement services during overnight shifts.
  • Engage homeless individuals through outreach activities by utilizing local resource networks.
  • Coordinating referrals with other agencies/facilities to meet the assessed needs of the clients.
  • Working cooperatively with local service providers and funding sources.
  • Participating in the resolution of crisis situations.
  • Ensure safety by facilitating voluntary and involuntary (when necessary) hospitalizations through the petitioning of 302 procedures.
  • Maintaining a close liaison with the local community and area service providers/agencies to facilitate program cooperation and provide for constructive input and/or alternative resources.
  • Monitoring the trends within the homeless community and share knowledge with the Program Manager.
  • Serving as an advocate and encourage clients to assume a proactive role in their rehabilitation and recovery process.
