Outreach Specialist/Lab Technician
About The Position
Join The Doe Fund on our mission to break the cycles of homelessness, addiction, and recidivism. Our flagship Ready, Willing & Able (RWA) program provides paid transitional work experience, transitional housing, advanced occupational training, and comprehensive supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness. The Doe Fund is also one of New York City’s largest nonprofit developers of permanent, affordable, and supportive housing, with more than 1,900 units in operation or pre-development. The Doe Fund has an annual operating budget of $80 million and a full-time staff of nearly 500, a significant portion of whom are graduates of our programs. The Doe Fund has an annual operating budget of $65 million and a full-time staff of 400+.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience with criminal justice or the homeless population, or the ability and desire to learn and adjust quickly to the population
- Excellent client contact skills, including a dedication to treating all clients with dignity and respect
- Computer proficient (must master two databases, and the position relies heavily on email contact)
- Independent worker, and able to navigate varying situations without onsite Supervisory support
Responsibilities
- Meet with every new Client to introduce program structure, guidelines, and expectation
- Orient Client to new surroundings, provide initial bedding and toiletries
- Complete detailed interview and paper intake with Client
- Enter all intake information into two databases (CARES & TDF Database)
- Construct an initial Independent Living Plan (ILP) with every new Client
- Assist with House Management duties whenever possible, including digital bed management, urine collection for toxicology, building rounds, etc.
- Conduct outreach
- Recruitment; Interview; background checks and assess prospective clients for entry into Doe Fund Programs
- Conduct Intakes and enter into the CTDB
- Generate Intake Packages and Client folders
- Maintain waiting list of program candidates
