About The Position

The Housing Navigation/Housing Support Specialist provides strength-based case management for families in the Family Emergency Shelter (FES) as they progress to permanent, stable housing. The primary focus is on securing housing, supporting families in their housing needs to prevent recidivism, resolving barriers to stability quickly, and connecting them with local community resources. This role involves providing monitoring, reporting, and technical support services to clients. Additionally, the specialist will conduct assessments with FES families to determine housing suitability and oversee and teach classes in the Life Skills curriculum. This position is grant-funded for four years.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in case management, counseling, and/or supervision of others.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of social service case management.
  • Knowledge of family services and community resources.
  • Knowledge of emotional or mental disorders.
  • Knowledge of case management with the homeless population.
  • Skills in active listening techniques.
  • Knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, or WordPerfect.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently organize and maintain records.
  • Ability and willingness to work from a team approach.
  • No evidence of substance abuse for a minimum of four (4) years.
  • Work requires the ability to lift, carry, push/pull light (less than 25 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Light mobility: duties are usually performed by a combination of standing, walking, and primarily sitting.
  • Travel (up to 40%) across Jefferson County will be required for housing navigation and housing support case management.
