About The Position

AHRC NYC is seeking an Outreach and Retention Specialist for their Queens Train and Earn Career Pathways Program, funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). This program offers comprehensive job training, employment services, and support services to help participants aged 16-24 find permanent jobs, obtain their high school equivalency if applicable, and access postsecondary education and training. The specialist will be responsible for participant recruitment and program retention, acting as a primary contact for individuals exploring the program and facilitating onboarding. This role requires building relationships with community partners, conducting information sessions, and providing trauma-informed case management to ensure participant support and program success.

Requirements

  • Skills and personality to forge relationships with Out of School Out of Work (OSOW) youth.
  • Ability to encourage youth participation and continuation in the program.
  • Ensure participants have access to supportive services, especially during the follow-up period, in coordination with case management staff.
  • Be a “credible messenger” with strong community connections.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least two (2) years of successful and relevant experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with people with disabilities/youth.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other Managers and Employment & Community Service Coordinators to develop and maintain sites, disseminate information, and provide top quality customer service to all EBS customers.

Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with community partners.
  • Conduct information session presentations and/or discussions with community partners.
  • Travel citywide to attend and participate in community events and public meetings.
  • Establish and maintain new relationships between the community and AHRC NYC, including business connections, internship sites, and additional support services.
  • Engage the community in partnership to support participant achievement and align resources.
  • Support DYCD case managers in maintaining relationships with program participants to encourage retention.
  • Provide trauma-informed case management services to ensure participants receive necessary support, maintaining detailed case notes and producing required reporting.
  • Regularly participate in team meetings to discuss updates and strategies for improving service delivery.
  • Serve as a liaison between staff, participants, families, community members, and service providers.
  • Act as the primary contact for individuals exploring the DYCD program.
  • Facilitate information sessions about the program - both in-person and virtual.
  • Facilitate onboarding for all DYCD participants and ensure all required paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure timely documentation of all outreach and direct service activities.
  • Track and report on outreach efforts and direct services provided, utilizing feedback to enhance future strategies.
  • Attend standing check-in meetings to review progress, challenges, and new initiatives.
  • Meet or exceed all expected program recruitment targets.
  • Work with the Program Director to identify and conceptualize outreach campaign strategies that meet and exceed goals.
  • Assist with developing content for electronic and print communications to support and market the program.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed on best practices for effective outreach methodologies.
  • Undertake additional tasks as requested by supervisors that align with the job role.
  • Attend and participate in program-wide events as required.
  • Perform other duties in accordance with the scope of the role.
  • Develop quality relationships leading to a strong qualified applicant pool.
  • Work collaboratively with the EBS managers to ensure that all program enrollments are filled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
