This is a budgeted, replacement position for an Athletic Trainer to fulfill contract obligations with Wesleyan Christian Academy. The role involves providing athletic training services to high schools and/or community sporting events, working within a Sports Medicine Team concept, and providing acute medical care to athletes on the field during practices or sporting events. Clinical athletic training services may also be provided in local orthopedic clinics. The position requires on-site recognition, evaluation, and immediate care for illnesses and injuries, including emergency situations. It also involves performing clinical injury evaluations, assessing patient function, determining appropriate therapeutic treatments and rehabilitation strategies, and implementing treatment program objectives. Collaboration with the directing physician is expected, including recommending discontinuation of services when optimal benefit is achieved. The role also involves determining return-to-play standards, maintaining treatment logs and injury reports, completing set-up for practices and games with necessary supplies, and assisting with departmental policies and compliance. Ensuring an Emergency Action Plan is in place for each venue and discussed with school personnel is crucial. The position may involve mentoring students in athletic training education programs and ensuring athletic training rooms have appropriate supplies and equipment. Developing a physician referral network and facilitating patient entry into the healthcare system are also key responsibilities. Maintaining training on concussion education, management, and care, including acute management of the cervical spine, is required. Adherence to the departmental dress code and performing other related clinical duties as required by state statutes and rules are also part of the role.
