About The Position

At Block by Block, Ambassadors are employed to enhance public spaces by making them friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. This role is ideal for outgoing and friendly individuals who enjoy working outdoors and meeting new people, including community workers, retirees, and veterans. The primary responsibility involves frequently canvassing designated zones to interact with and seek out homeless/unhoused individuals, building relationships of trust with a "compassion first" approach. Ambassadors direct those in public spaces to appropriate services or more suitable locations, requiring a strong understanding of available social services within the community to suggest the right resources. They also respond to requests from merchants or visitors for engagement with individuals in need, aiming to de-escalate situations and redirect activities. A key aspect of the role is establishing cooperative relationships with agencies that serve the homeless to make a positive impact. Additionally, Ambassadors provide small comfort items like water or toiletries and are required to complete basic daily reports, necessitating proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
