About The Position

Lighthouse Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a Licensed or Licensed Eligible Outpatient Therapist for their Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Lighthouse has been providing substance abuse and mental health services since 2002, expanding its services over the years to include adult and senior inpatient care, an inpatient chemical dependency rehabilitation unit, an acute adolescent unit, and an Adult Substance Use Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program. The hospital aims to be the provider of choice for psychiatric care. The qualified Outpatient Clinician will provide direct and indirect clinical care to patients with substance abuse or chemical dependency problems. This role requires expertise in program development and implementation, care and discharge planning, and group work. The candidate will be responsible for comprehensive assessments of individuals with mental illness, behavioral disturbances, substance issues, or functional impairments. They will assist with the admission process (voluntary and involuntary), make referrals to community resources, and coordinate discharge planning with medical staff. The therapist will be a member of the multidisciplinary team, participate in community relations, and engage in continuous performance improvement activities. Communication with outpatient referral sources, families/guardians, and aftercare providers is essential. Additional duties include assessing patient's state and extent of chemical use or psychiatric state, conducting psychosocial assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, conducting didactic and other patient groups, communicating patient progress, developing and coordinating individual discharge plans, identifying community resources, participating in the discharge process, reporting abuse incidents, and attending clinical and administrative meetings.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or closely related Mental Health field from an accredited college or university
  • Comfortability working with child, adolescent and adult clients
  • Need to have completed an Internship during Masters Program to obtain 45 credits
  • Licensed in the state of South Carolina, Preferred.
  • Required license eligibility with: LICSW, LMHC OR LMFT Preferred
  • Strong knowledge or background in Programming preferred
  • Flexibility hours to include evening program coverage.
  • Familiarity with support groups
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships through compassion, empathy and insight
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of clients from diverse cultural or linguistic backgrounds
  • Excellent time management skills to maintain appointments and timely record keeping

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect quality clinical care to patients with substance abuse or chemical dependency problems.
  • Perform comprehensive assessment of persons whose lives are disrupted or complicated by mental illness, behavioral disturbance, substance issues or inability to function or maintain in the community.
  • Assist law enforcement, family members and others with admission process, both voluntary and involuntary.
  • Make referrals to community resources as appropriate.
  • Coordinate discharge planning through the medical staff.
  • Function as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in the community relations program of the organization.
  • Participate in continuous performance improvement activities.
  • Communicate with outpatient referral sources, families/guardians, and outpatient aftercare providers.
  • Assess patient’s state and extent of chemical use or psychiatric state.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments to document history and identify preliminary issues for treatment focus.
  • Develop and implement a plan of treatment, in conjunction with members of the outpatient team.
  • Conduct didactic and other appropriate patient groups, utilizing 12-Step philosophy, and/or psychiatric coping mechanisms.
  • Communicate with referral sources and other appropriate parties regarding patients’ progress.
  • Develop and coordinate an individual discharge plan for the patient by utilizing treatment team and chart information to determine the patients’ aftercare needs.
  • Identify and assess family or community resources such as group homes or mental health practitioners.
  • Participate in discharge process by completing summaries making aftercare referrals, and by attending discharge conference with patients, family members, and treatment team members.
  • Report any incidents or suspected incidents of sexual/physical abuse or other patient issues to community or state agencies and represent the hospital in any legal proceedings.
  • Participate in department and other program or clinical and administrative meetings, support maintenance and development of clinical program services.
  • Provide backup services for incoming assessment and referral calls.
