Outpatient Therapists provide mental health services—including individual, group, and family therapy—in clinics, schools, and clients’ homes. They work with clients referred by DMH, DCFS, other provider agencies, and Penny Lane programs. Therapists collaborate with case managers and treatment teams to assess families’ needs, connect them with community services, and coordinate the services clients receive. They document services according to DMH and Penny Lane guidelines. The role requires strong verbal and written communication when working with clients, outside agencies, community members, and colleagues. In clients’ homes and schools, therapists are expected to maintain a calm demeanor and appropriate ethical and professional boundaries. They use clinical skills to assess appropriate levels of care and stabilize clients in crisis. Collaboration and coordination with Penny Lane staff, DCFS, DMH, and other agencies are essential. The position also requires flexibility, effective time management, and the ability to manage responsibilities efficiently with little supervision.
