OSU Harding Hospital/East Hospital-Talbot Hall provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare services for adults in central Ohio, offering more treatment options and a more experienced and diversified staff than any other provider in the area. Services include psychiatric emergency, behavioral health urgent care, inpatient, outpatient, IOP, and partial hospitalization, all involving comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and individualized treatment plans. They offer specialized evidence-based services for various conditions including psychiatric emergency & crisis, mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis, trauma- and stress-related disorders, and sexual dysfunction. Specialty programs are available for women’s behavioral health, addictions, trauma, adolescent school-based, and neurocognitive disorders. Talbot Hall also provides comprehensive addiction services for adults, with specialized evidence-based services for substance use disorders, including traumatic brain injury specific treatment and Medicated Assisted Treatment for opiate and alcohol use disorders. Patients and their families benefit from patient-focused care through the integrated skills of all treatment team members. The BHUC nurse serves as a critical part of the clinical team at OSU Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC), which provides short-term outpatient services bridging gaps in mental health and substance use treatment. Operated by OSUWMC and Ohio State’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, BHUC offers adults immediate support for mental health or substance use concerns through walk-in or scheduled visits, either in person or via telehealth. It acts as an alternative to the Emergency Department for routine or urgent behavioral health needs and provides rapid-access follow-up appointments within seven days of psychiatric inpatient or ED discharge. BHUC delivers short-term psychotherapy, psychiatric medication evaluation and management, and limited case management for patients at risk of behavioral health decompensation or substance use escalation. Care is available for up to two months and is not intended as long-term treatment. BHUC has multiple locations: BHUC – Harding (primary focus: mental health care with substance use support), BHUC – Talbot (primary focus: substance use treatment with mental health support), and BHUC – Powell (opening August 2026, focus under development but will align with existing BHUC programs). In January 2026, BHUC expanded to a second location at OSU East Hospital, with a third site planned at OSU Outpatient Care Powell in August 2026. These locations operate under a unified framework with differentiated focuses, expanding access, reducing fragmentation, and better supporting patients with complex behavioral health needs. All BHUC locations focus on stabilizing immediate concerns and connecting patients to long-term treatment resources. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team including advanced practice providers, nurses, psychiatrists, addiction medicine physicians, behavioral health therapists, and peer supporters. Services include medication management, brief psychotherapy, and other short-term interventions, offered in person or virtually.
