About The Position

Outpatient Physical Therapist Trinity Health Livonia Hospital Location: Livonia, MI Schedule: 32 hours/ week, Full Time Benefit Eligible Upon Hire Rate: $41.75+ (rate review based on prior work experience in the job title) The primary duties of the Physical Therapist are to test and measure the function of the musculoskeletal, neurological, pulmonary, and cardiovascular systems of patients. As prescribed by a referring physician, the physical therapist treats and directs treatment of patients based on an established plan of care. The therapist notes the diagnosis and takes all precautions of observing indications and contradictions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from accredited school of Physical Therapy and licensure as Physical Therapist in the State of Michigan
  • One to two years’ experience may be required for supervisory positions.
  • Membership in or eligibility for membership in American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Stooping, pulling, pushing, and manual dexterity with giving massages.
  • Ability to lift/support patients and equipment of all weights.
  • Regular heavy lifting involved.
  • Visual acuity necessary to perceive reactions to treatment and to read instruments.
  • Talking and hearing necessary to convey and receive instructions and provide information to patients and staff members.
  • Willingness to work with realization that errors may have serious consequences for patient, and work with a variety of patients of all age groups, many of whom are in disturbed conditions.
  • Gentleness and sympathy in dealing with patients.
  • Alertness to detect symptoms of unfavorable reactions.
  • Accuracy in adjustment of sensitive electrical instruments and in timing of treatments.
  • Considerable initiative and judgment and involved in administering treatments as prescribed by physician and in interpreting patients’ reactions, developing and maintaining work schedules, preparing reports of treatments and results, and adapting therapeutic exercises and equipment to patients when required.
  • Motor coordination and manual dexterity necessary when massaging patients and handling therapeutic equipment and apparatus.

  • Must be able to apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and physical science to specialized techniques in the treatment of patients, and know how to position patients with various conditions for different types of treatments.
  • Able to instruct students, interns, and other health professionals in methods and objectives of physical therapy.
  • Consults with physician concerning goals and treatment plans.
  • Able to provide instruction for home care and treatment.
  • Able to instruct on posture and body mechanics.
  • Knowledge of evaluations and patient’s response to treatment.
  • Willing to participate in supervision of assistants and aides.
  • Willing to attend inservices and meetings.
  • Able to perform other related duties.
  • Ability to form conclusions reflecting patient’s progress on basis of both sensory judgmental criteria and measurable or verifiable criteria, indicated by their reaction to therapy activities.
  • Ability to perform in situations requiring direction, control, or planning of the activities of others and to initiate and conduct therapy program.
  • Clerical perception necessary to keep accurate records of patients’ treatment, reactions, and evolution of progress.
  • Spatial and form perception necessary to visualize anatomical structure of the disabled part of the body and the relation of therapeutic devices in remedial actions.
  • Verbal ability necessary to understand medical terminology and how it applies to physical therapy; to communicate with patients, staff, and physicians, and to prepare meaningful reports.
